BURNS IMPRESSES ON THISTED TRIAL
Yanks Abroad News Release
Former Delaware Dynasty and University of Massachusetts goalkeeper Colin Burns is traveling Europe looking for new employment for this summer, most recently trialing with Thisted FC, who are currently 13th in the Danish second flight.
"At the end of my trial, they said that I was on a list of several other goalkeepers and that they would keep me in mind for the summer," Burns told YA. "They were impressed with me as a professional and with my abilities as a goalkeeper."
Despite the successful trial at Thisted, Burns has agreed with the club and his agent that this may not the best move for him at the moment.
Talks are ongoing with several teams in the SAS Liga and the Jupiler League, as well as a pair of Portuguese Primera Liga clubs.
"My agent is speaking with a few clubs in Belgium and other clubs in Denmark," said Burns. "I have nothing confirmed at the moment. I am still following a few options from two teams in the Portuguese first division that are looking for a goalkeeper this summer."
Burns comes from a stint with Olimpia Balti in the Moldovian league, where he was one of the country's top-rated keepers.
"My time in Moldova opened a lot of doors for me," he noted. "It was a necessary evil to go and play there."
"I needed somewhere to get my foot in the door of European football and if I had to live in the poorest country in Europe to do it, I didn't care. I proved to myself as well as other clubs and agents that I could go in and play at a high level in the larger stadiums."

When will you return to Delaware again?
If all goes well with the trials, I probably will not be back in Delaware till December 07'. I will mostly like sign with a club in Norway, they usually start training in February and their season finishes in late November. If I sign in Portugal, I'll be back in Delaware in May but returning to Portugal for preseason in July.
How was your overall experience in Moldova?
My overall experience in Moldova was.....'Life Changing'. It was an adventure from the moment I stepped off the plane in Chisinau. From learning to speak Russian, living in a different culture, meeting new people, I could go on and on, it was just an amazing experience. In terms of my development as a player, it was something that I needed to do. I've grown a lot as a professional in the past 6 months playing in the large stadiums with big crowds, dealing with the media and fans, going to training everyday, I have to say that I learned a lot and gained a lot of valuable experience that will aid me in getting a new contract with my next club.
Anything you'd like to say to Delaware Dynasty fans and future soccer stars?
For all those future soccer stars, I would say to never give up and if you have a dream then go after it with everything you have and don't let anything stand in your way. There will be a lot of ups and downs but don't give up because in the end your going to become a stronger person by getting through all the tough times. Set small goals and dream big and who knows what can happen. Don't let anyone tell you that your not good enough or you can't play at a certain level. Defying the odds are what makes life fun! My last bit of advice would be to never stop training. Play as much as you can. The only way I got to where I am today and where I'm going in the future is through shear determination and hard work. I've passed so many goalkeepers that were 'better' than me just by doing the extras and going out and training harder and longer than anyone. I plan on continuing that to see how far it can take me.....the sky is the limit!
