FINAL 2006 USL BROADCAST ON FOX SOCCER CHANNEL SATURDAY

TAMPA, FL - The final broadcast of the 2006 United Soccer Leagues season will air Saturday night at 5:00 pm ET on Fox Soccer Channel, featuring the Super Y-League North American Finals showcase match as well as a look at the USL Hall of Fame ceremony and behind the scenes footage of events at the USL SoccerFest, which includes EPL great Alan Shearer.
The showcase match between the New York Red Bulls and Kendall SC was a group play game from the U17 Boys SYL North American Finals Championship bracket. The match was a nail-biter that came down to the final minute for the two sides that squared off in the semifinals of the U16 bracket the year before with the then MetroStars advancing to the championship match.
"A nationally televised match is important because we want people to see what Major League Soccer is doing for youth development," said Red Bull New York's Director of Player Development Giovanni Savarese. "Most people in North America have heard the name Red Bull New York. This is a good chance for everyone to see what we are all about. A televised match will help people understand soccer in the United States is growing and that Red Bull New York and the USL Super Y-League are at the forefront."
"Competition is always great for development," said Kendall SC Head Coach Victor Pastora. "A rivalry like Kendall SC and Red Bull New York causes a chain reaction that influences everyone in both divisions to give their best. This is good for the development of coaches, players, teams, clubs and soccer in this country."
The behind the scenes looks at the USL SoccerFest, which included the Finals as well as the USL Annual General Meeting, includes footage of the USL Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, including former Major League Soccer players Marcelo Balboa and Manny Lagos, and the announcement of USL annual awards. It also features looks at the Opening Lunch as well as the appearance of Alan Shearer.
